Nuns Cross Farmhouse

Built in 1870 by Labourer John Hooper using stones collected by his wife from the Moors, the couple are documented as having very little money and just 1 cow. Life was incredibly tough in such a remote location and it wasn't long before Nuns Cross Farmhouse had it's first mystery. Legend tells of a farmers wife who went to check on the cattle one misty, cold winters night never to return. Her body was never found but her ghost is said to be seen on the moorlands surrounding the house, and in the kitchen. She is described as grey, with wet hair and wet clothing and has terrified several walkers passing by.

Another mystery at this location is the so called 'Sword Stone' on which an emblem of a sword has been carved along with the initial T and V. Experts have been unable to age the inscription and it's significance remains a mystery.

The farm continued to be occupied by farmers until 1929 when it fell into disuse. Rumour has it that during the 1960's and 70's it was used by the Royal Navy for training, however this training has not been recorded.

• Objects being moved 
• Doors slamming on their own
• Fleeting figures seen in the doorways
• Inhuman howling heard across the nearby moorland

We will email you with a reminder and a payment link. You can also choose to pay your remaining balance at any time by visiting our 'Balance Payments' section and selecting the correct event. Any payments which remain outstanding 6 weeks prior to the event will result in places being forfeited. Deposits are non-refundable and non-transferable.

Nuns Cross Farmhouse is a remote location located a 10 minute walk, across moorland, from the nearest car park. Guests are reminded to wear sensible shoes, warm waterproof clothing and to bring a torch. 

This investigation is not suitable for anyone of a nervous disposition or pregnant ladies. Guests with mobility issues are also advised against booking this event.

There is no running water at the farm, guests are advised to bring their own hot drinks flasks. Snacks will be provided.

Attached to the farm is an indoor composting toilet. Full details on how to use the toilet are at the farm.

It is possible to park cars on the gravel track leading up to the Farmhouse but please do not drive on the grass. You must leave cars and walk a few minutes to the Farmhouse. It is against National Park Bylaws to drive vehicles ‘off-road’.
